Day 1: In-depth introduction to Topic Maps

This first day gives a an overview of Topic Maps and Topic Maps applications. The purpose of this day is to provide a solid foundation for the following course days for management as well as technical staff.

Day 2: Ontology Design for Topic Mappers

Designing the ontology is an integral and important aspect of every Topic Maps application. It might sound difficult, but in fact it's not. Learn exactly what an ontology is and how to go about developing one. This day takes the form of an interactive workshop that provides an overview of all the issues to be considered when modelling topic maps. Practical examples are used to apply the methodologies and to help you make modelling decisions based on your requirements.

Day 3: Querying Topic Maps with tolog

This day provides an overview of the various components of the Ontopia Knowledge Suite with a particular focus on Ontopia's powerful query language, tolog. The query language is the basis for all application development with the OKS, and so this day teaches the basics that will be used the following two days.

Day 4: Web Application Development with the OKS

Day 4 focuses on the OKS Navigator Framework, a toolkit for building user-friendly web applications that let users find information using Topic Maps. This course builds on Day 3 and will teach you how to create a browsing application (suitable for users who have no knowledge of Topic Maps whatsoever) using the OKS Navigator Framework and tolog. Participants will build their own Topic Maps-driven web browsing application.

Day 5 focuses on the OKS Web Editor Framework, a toolkit for building user-friendly web editing environments for Topic Maps. This course will teach you how to extend Day 4's browsing application with editing capabilities. You will learn to develop editing interfaces that are suitable for users who have no knowledge of Topic Maps.
