Ontopia Knowledge Suite(TM) Illustrates Chapter on Topic Maps

OSLO, NORWAY, 12 FEBRUARY 2004 - Charles F. Goldfarb’s XML Handbook(TM), the leading XML resource with over 100,000 copies in print, is now available in a revised and expanded Fifth Edition. The new book totals more than 1,250 pages, covering the full breadth of XML applications, tools, and technologies that are revolutionizing Web services, e?business, and software development. The Ontopia Knowledge Suite (OKS) is featured in the book's coverage of tool support for Topic Maps.

"So much has happened because of XML since the last edition, that we had to write a new book," said Dr. Goldfarb, the father of the markup language technology used in XML. "XML now affects everything, from business areas like supply chain and demand chain management to programming and Web infrastructure - even the desktop!"

Industry experts from leading XML providers and users participated, including Ontopia and such household names as Adobe, IBM, Intel, and Microsoft.

Steve Pepper, Ontopia’s founder, had these comments: "This new edition confirms The XML Handbook’s role as an invaluable resource for XML implementers and users. We’re pleased that Topic Maps plays such a large role in the content of the Handbook. Topic Maps is both an XML technology in its own right and a complement to XML. While XML handles the syntax and structure of documents, Topic Maps takes care of the semantics - that is, the meaning of the information. Together, XML and Topic Maps can be applied to a wide range of business applications, such as portals, rules modeling, and information integration."

Included with the new edition of The XML Handbook are two CD-ROMs that contain 200 free XML software packages, including Ontopia’s Omnigator, a generalized Topic Maps browser; trial versions of major XML products; and a library of XML-related specifications.
