    • I picked this concert from a program of events that Erika had waiting for us when we arrived for a five-day pre-Christmas visit and we managed to get tickets for the four of us. The Meistersingerhalle is enormous and in the fourth row of the balcony the orchestra feels miles away. Fortunately the acoustics are quite good. I found Blomstedt's tempi to be a bit on the slow side: it's as if he loves the music so much he doesn't want it to ever end, but I would have preferred a bit more forward motion and - given the size of the hall - a bit more oomph as well. Nevertheless, a very enjoyable concert.
